Born under the bright lights of Paris one February day in 1973, my artistic journey is anything but ordinary. I embraced the epic journey of French hip-hop, influenced by globetrotting cousins who, from the Bronx to Queens, brought me back sartorial treasures from the '90s. Adidas for others, but for me, it was Troop and Kangol. A smurf and breakdancer, I grooved to the rhythm of Sidney H.I.P.H.O.P.'s shows. My adventure took a turn with the creation of T.P.S (Tous Pour le Style). "MEK" was my alias - Manicor Égale Kaïd. Hip-hop dance and graffiti were my playgrounds, although my graphic design talents quickly gave way to other aspirations. Reggae hip-hop, led by Puppa Leslie, captivated me and pushed me toward new musical adventures, particularly during my time in Guadeloupe, the land of my ancestors. There, my nickname "Professor" was born, and I began training other artists in the art of reggae hip-hop. My military service was a decisive crossroads, where my encounter with LAÏON.P gave birth to NEG’RADIKAL, a band that shook Guadeloupe. After the group's expansion and numerous SoundSystem performances, I embraced the role of SELEKTA, mixing for our devoted audience. Despite the group's dissolution, my passion for music persisted. I began composing riddims, producing artists, and navigating financial challenges and creative opportunities. My collaboration with Dominica's Klocker'z crew was a turning point, featuring their hit "Feels Like Summer" on one of my own compositions. This experience opened the doors to international collaborations, notably with Triple Kay International. At the same time, I was rocking the nightlife scene in Guadeloupe, DJing in iconic venues such as the Dancehall Café and the LRN. The tragic passing of "SUPPA," the "king of Bouyon," whom I had trained and produced, marked a moment of reflection. I then created "ALAZONMAI," a speakeasy bar in my hometown, a hub for artists, a place for creation and connection. My return to mainland France was an opportunity to hone my skills in various areas of the music industry, including digital marketing, music production, rights management and publishing, and many others. Today, in 2023, my website is the showcase for my works, which are sold internationally on Beatstars. I produce for a diverse range of artists and media outlets, coaching and inspiring the next generation. The future looks bright, with more and more partnership and coaching opportunities. My goal for 2024? To shine on the international stage, an ambition I deeply cherish.
